Photo @pedromcbride // Nature never ceases to amaze me. A couple days ago I watched baby Olive Ridley #seaturtles struggle to the ocean just moments after crawling from their eggs buried in the sand. If they survive this dangerous scramble (most don’t) — avoiding hungry birds, fish, fishing nets and poachers that believe turtle eggs are aphrodisiacs— the females will return to the exact beach where they were hatched, years later, to lay eggs and repeat the cycle. Talk about a tough entrance into the world. Once considered the most abundant sea turtle in the world, Ridley’s have experienced a 30% population loss due mostly to the destruction of nesting habitat. #ostional #costarica #ridley #fullmoon #sunrise #turtle #wild #nature @natgeocreative
